Once my mobile dropped from my pocket and lost during travelling, I got worried. Two days after that incident I lived mobile-less and believe me they were two of the most peaceful days of my life. I experienced mindfulness of top-level during this very short period.
But mobile isn’t a bad thing, isn’t it? Why we are fussing over our smarty, it’s our best friend. In fact, nowadays it becomes a part of our body, this piece of tech remains with us 24 hours a day, even it sleeps with us at the bedside. Is it really distracting us when our work demands concentration?
A study of Hokkaido University, Japan published in January 2017 showed that mere presence of your mobile, even it’s not making sounds (calls or messages), is a distraction for your mind.
You can handle mobile distraction using any of the following ways.
1. TURN OFF YOUR SMARTY:
I bet you weren’t expecting this. If your phone distracting you in your important task, why can’t you turn it off? Certainly, you can. But you have to control your feeling that you are losing something by shutting it off.
2. MAKE IT SILENT:
You can always put your mobile phone on silent. Actually, it’s one of the best methods but during silent mode, you have to stop peeping your smarty after every minute. Silent mode is called meeting mode. It’s mean you are in some important meeting or doing something worthwhile and you don’t want to be disturbed by your phone.
3. LOG OUT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITES:
There are many individuals who make an account on any social media website, got the option of remembering the password, and then never sign out. When they want to get off from the site, they just turned mobile data off. Because of that when you turned on mobile data for any work-purpose, you get the notifications of social media websites and you can’t hold you back from clicking that notification. That’s very irritating and distracting. Getting all day connected with social media is very damaging not only for your work but also for your mind, your health, and overall productivity of your life. Get signed out from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more.
4. NOTIFICATIONS … TURN OFF:
You can turn off the notifications of different apps on your mobile phone. Such as you can turn off the Gmail alerts, notifications of Facebook groups etc. Of course, you can’t shut off the notifications of every app but at least do it for the apps which are frequently sending alerts.
5. DO NOT DISTURB:
Latest versions of the mobile operating platforms contain the feature of do not disturb time. If you can’t afford to cut off notifications on your mobile phone, you can set do not disturb time. During that time you will not receive the sound of notifications.
